What is Scooping Sanity?
The world can be a pretty shitty place and, for many people, life can be downright unlivable, made up of one impossible situation after another. A capitalist society dominated by corporate interests and wealthy elites will do its best to convince us that this is our fault, and that if we’re struggling there must be something wrong with us.
We freely admit that we’ve got our healthy share of quirks, maladies, and perhaps even defects. We’ve certainly had failures and we’ve made a shit ton of mistakes. But this doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with us. It means we’re human.
If we have one core belief here it is: When life pushes us down, society should have mechanisms to pick us back up rather than smashing our heads deeper into the gutter. [Read more here.]

Fruit Curious
I have an odd relationship with fruit. For a while, we tried to make it work. People kept telling us we’d be good for each other. Maybe they were right. But being together always felt like a chore, something we did because we were expected to, neither of us much enjoying the experience. I was…

Interpretive Dancing for Christ (Season 1, Episode 8)
We’re both from deep red states that weren’t until fairly recently. We reflect on that, which takes us into topics like our childhoods, religion, family, political shifts, hate, and fascism. What does it mean to live around a whole bunch of pretty good people whose voting patterns nonetheless perpetuate horror after horror? For mysterious reasons,…

The best jokes are rarely funny. (Season 1, Episode 7)
What is the role of comedy, if any, in highlighting political hypocrisy, immorality, and evil? Should political comedy aim to unsettle us rather than make us laugh? We attempt to answer these questions by discussing two people — Jon Stewart and Barack Obama — that made a lot of lefties feel good for a while but we…

Free-Range Corporations (Season 1, Episode 6)
Is the United States a free-market country? Not really. So why do we think it is? Basically, a massive public relations campaign to convince us that what’s good for wealthy elites is also good for the rest of us. Spoiler alert: It’s not. We discuss how we ended up in our current corporate hellscape and…

Hiding in the White (Season 1, Episode 5)
Actor, ally, and accomplice? What do these terms mean and can they help us understand the roles white people (or, more accurately, people racialized as white) could and should play in disrupting systems of oppression and privilege? Naturally, the discussion veers into a lot of other terrain but Jørn does a pretty good job of…

First as Tragedy then as Weekend at Bernie’s (Season 1, Episode 4)
After three episodes, we thought we’d take a crack at explaining why we created Scooping Sanity. Did we succeed? Probably not, but we do talk about a lot of interesting stuff including a certain world famous musician. So, yeah, everyone who likes Taylor Swift will be super pissed when they realize you didn’t tell them…
